Little Music Maker

When I first started collecting daylilies back in 2000, I was only facinated by the biggers flowers. It had to be BIG to be a part of my collection. However, in the last couple of years I have found great pleasure in the little flowers as well. They have a place in my garden all their own. As a matter of fact, my best results in hybridizing last year came  from crossing several small flowers to small. This photo is of h. Little Music Maker, blooming today in my garden. It was so small and hidden in the Crinum's that I almost didn't see it this morning during my daily stroll through the daylily beds to see what was blooming. The sun was streaming right across his little face and what a wonderful surprise he offered as I discovered him smiling this morning for a photo. The bloom measured 2.85 inches across so you can imagine how easy to be lost in the other foliage that surrounds him. There are scapes coming up all over the garden and in just a very few short weeks, our Florida daylilies will be in full swing. This is about a month or half ahead of where we usually are. We have had virtually NO winter here in central Florida this year.
